Shakespeare Way Part 3
Hanwell to Iver, 10 miles Meet 10.30 for 11.00 departure from The Clocktower Café 151 Uxbridge Rd Hanwell W7 3SP Suggested route from St Albans: We will be travelling to Hanwell and returning from Iver (outside zone 6 and Oyster cannot be used). Although there are overnight works on Thameslink and a reduced service on the Elizabeth line, these services should be running. St Albans (08.58) è Farringdon (09.28) on Thameslink Return Trains from Iver at 16.24, 16.54, and 17.24 to Farringdon, (travel time 44 mins) It seems a little unlikely that Shakespeare would have come this precise way, as the Grand Union canal wouldn’t have existed in his time. Nevertheless, it provides us with an avenue through West London with highlights including the Hanwell flight of locks and the Slough Arm aqueduct. It is a relatively flat 10 miles passing; packed lunch recommended although there will be coffee / tea and toilet opportunities at 5 and 8 miles. https://explore.osmaps.com/route/29166227/sw3–hanwell-to-iver?lat=51.50779&lon=-0.44063&zoom=13.0213&overlays=os-obstacles-layer&style=Standard&type=2d Let Martin know on Meets & Greets near the time if you plan to go |

Visit to Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Airbase at North Weald followed by pub lunch and an afternoon walk
After the talk on our local air ambulance last year, now is your chance to visit the airbase. This is for a Visitor Centre Experience with Mark Borg, who is a very knowledgeable volunteer about all things air ambulance! We cannot guarantee you will see the helicopter as it may be out on a mission, but if it is at North Weald, hopefully we can see it. Afterwards, you can either have lunch at a local garden centre, or if you bring a packed lunch, you can join Matthew for an afternoon walk in Epping Forest. We will email a couple of weeks before to see who wants to come to the Airbase and if you want to join the walk. I can then provide details of how to access the airfield and find the air ambulance to those who are driving. |
